Welcome to Deep Space 12

Deep Space 12 has a new home.
Starfleet decided that resources allocated to patrol the Cardassian/Federation border would be better utilised in a different location so we were relocated to the ‘southern’ end of the Federation/Cardassian border.
Deep Space 12 forms part of Starfleet’s Task Force 72. Its primary mission is twofold: that of maintaining the peace established by the treaty between Cardassia and the Federation at the end of the Dominion War; and monitoring and policing piratical activity in our region of space.

The peace established a Demilitarized Zone. Both sides were forbidden to establish new bases or deploy armed vessels inside the Zone for the duration of the treaty.
Recently that peace was shattered.
A Cardassian colony, Quatal Prime, was transferred to the Federation when the treaty was signed. It was brutally attacked by an unknown force. Now another attack has occurred, this time on the Federation colony planet of Gaspar.
The perpetrator, or perpetrators, is unknown. It could have been Cardassian groups which stand in opposition to the Treaty; it could have been pirates. It could have been a coalition of both.
The attacks threaten to send the region into a tail spin, potentially destabilizing the whole border. It will be DS12’s task to both investigate and provide humanitarian assistance to the survivors and assist in rebuilding the colonies.

Following a brutal power struggle, a new figure has emerged at the head of the pirates. He styles himself ‘Commodore’ Lax Rendo’re XVIII. Little is known about him but his methods are plain for all to see. He has been attacking transports and ground facilities then issuing propaganda holovids casting the blame on Starfleet. There holovids have been very effective in rallying support within the areas he controls.
Early efforts at retaliation have provoked a sharp response. Assassination attempts were made against DS12’s XO, Colonel Wolfric Bannister, and a private eye based on the station, Jillian Forst. Both were unsuccessful. Colonel Bannister is preparing to launch a grab and run mission designed to snatch Rendo’re and bring him back to the Federation to face justice.

DS12 will shortly be launching a major offensive against Rendo’re and his cohorts. The offensive will also serve as a diversion to distract the pirates while Colonel Bannister moves in.

Deep Space12 needs your support to carry out its dual role. If you would like to join us, have a look over our site. If you like what you see (and we’re confident you will) then fill in an application form.

» Posting...again

Posted on Wed Sep 20th, 2017 @ 4:23am by Captain Nelson Harrison in General News

It is now over two weeks since I posted a News item asking people to post to the simm. In that time, only one person (AJ) has actually done so.
There is only one storyline currently running (the mystery ship) but there is plenty of room for everyone to get involved.
Our simm relies on everyone contributing. Only that way can it move forward.
Please get some posts going. If the situation continues, I will have to shut down the simm for lack of interest.

It has been another slow month for posting in August. Lieutenant Barker and Major Temple both contributed to posts and Jillian Forst put in a request for direction. I thank all three of them for their contributions.
Other than that....
I know we have a problem with the new canon which is being developed. I can't do a lot with introducing new story lines until it is finalised. I hope it will lead to us being able to integrate better with the rest of the Task Force.

Joan (Stills) has taken up the Chief Diplomatic Officer position. She will be playing an Andorian, Asarah zh'Zakira. Asarah is a zhen. We know Asarah is a zhen because of the suffix to her surname. To non-Andorians, she would be considered a female and can be addressed - or referred to - using normal Federation standard feminine pronouns.
There are four Andorian (and Aenar) sexes, roughly equivalent to two male and two female. Both males (the thaan and chan) are needed to fertilise the shen's egg then the zygote is passed from the shen to the zhen who carries the foetus to term in her pouch.
Needless to say, all this makes for an interesting sex life but, this being a 13+ simm, it's probably best if we don't go too deeply into that. ;)

AJ has changed his PC. Magnus Temple has received a well deserved promotion to the Federation bureaucracy. He will now be working out of the Palais de la Concorde in Paris.
I'm sure we all wish him well in his new position. Congratulations, Magnus.
Magnus will be available as a liaison with the Federation, should we need him.
In the interim, Ensign T'Ami will be Acting Chief Diplomatic Officer.
Jesse Temple (yes, they are related) will be joining us as Marine Commander with the rank of Major. Please welcome Jesse with the customary flurry of joint posts.

» Gaspar

Posted on Mon Jan 9th, 2017 @ 2:36am by Captain Nelson Harrison in General News

With the posting of 'Hope', I am wrapping up the Gaspar story line for now.
Characters on Gaspar can be brought back to DS12 in another episode or merely turn up on the station: up to you.
By now you will all hopefully have read the articles from the TFCO on new canon story lines. The Order of Twelve (OoT) will be our next main focus. However, I am considering having a branch of the Orion Syndicate trying to step into the power vacuum following Lax Rendo're's fall.
Please give thought to how your character and NPCs might fit into both these scenarios.
