I'm only dreaming

Last night, in what little sleep I had, I relived another part of the Dominion War. I hate these dreams but cannot escape them.

It was another battle on a planet where we had another stand off and had to retreat. As a Major in the Marine Corps, he held the equal rank of a Lt. Commander. When he beamed back to the USS Sullivan he found out no one survived above the rank of Lieutenant and was asked to report to the battle bridge immediately.

As soon as he walked in, he heard "Captain on the bridge."

After some quick comments, he found out he was the ranking officer on the ship. This was the second time this happened to him which caused a lot of dismay as he was a ground pounder and not a fleet officer. He did have the training though and took the captain's chair.

"Sir, you have command of the task group," said the tactical officer, who was an ensign.

He blinked but quickly took in the situation, "Assault wall formation. Power to weapons and forward shields" he ordered.

The 3 Cardassian Galor class warships and the 3 Dominion ships classified as Firefly ships squared up with them in short order. Two Galaxy class ships, an Akira class, a Romulan d'trax class battleship plus two Klingon ships, a Bird of Prey and a Vor'cha class evened the odds.

"Open fire, fire at will. Again, all ships, all weapons....Open fire.," he ordered.

The conflict ended with 1 allied ship loss, the bird of prey, versus 100% casualties by the enemy. The planet was then bombarded, glassing all areas held by the Dominion.

It was with cold calculation he said, "All ships....Regroup at Firebase 57 for refit and recrew. Respond."

He settled in when he got confirmation. This was going to be a long ride home.
