It was finally making some sense, the different glyphs that she had been staring at for hours, all the pieces where falling into place. Each and every piece, what the queen had been talking about, the T'Kon, the ruins, everything. In a small way, she felt sorry for the creatures they had just destroyed. They had just been a victim of circumstance in all of this, working purely on survival instinct. Her Ready Room door chime sounded, "Come in", she called, not taking her eyes from the display. She all ready knew who it would be, and he had been a lot longer than she would have thought.

Vos had admittedly dragged his feet on his way to the bridge. He'd gone back to his quarters, had a blissful sonic shower that removed the grime and some of the ache of the time spent on the planet, and clothed himself in an immaculate, new uniform tailored perfectly to fit him. He still felt bruised all over, but he could function. Unfortunately, he was headed straight back into a difficult position as he rode the turbolift to deck one. The ensign standing at the duty officer on the bridge rose from the Captain's chair at his arrival, but Vos waved him back down with half a smile and proceeded to Beverly's door. He straightened his shirt with a brief tug at the hem and pressed the door chime. He was rewarded a moment later with entry.

When Vos strolled purposefully into the room, he found the Commander just as she said she was going to be hours earlier: studying what he assumed to be the alien glyphs they'd discovered on the planet. He wondered just how long she'd been at it. "Commander," he nodded in greeting, standing in front of her desk. He paused for a moment, waiting for her to look up, if she would at all, then continued with, "How are you feeling?"

"Terribly", her whole attention focused on the data she was studying. "I have some answers finally". She tapped a control and then swivelled the console so he could see it. On the screen was a graceful and captivating woman. A plume of feathers cascading around her temples and piercing violet eyes. "She is a distant relative of the T'Kon. The race that once occupied the Latanna system by all accounts", she glanced at him, noticing his blank expression.

"I heard the Queen mention that name. Where did they go? What happened to them?" Vos asked as he peered at the figure on the screen and the accompanying information.

"From what I have discovered, the T'Kon were drawn into a devastating war, they turned to biogenic weapons", her tone softened as she reached the reasons behind her sorrow for the alien creatures they had so recently been fighting. "They released a bio-agent into the atmosphere over one of the larger continents. It was designed to attack the DNA of the sub-species on the planet. It had an unaccounted effect on the creators".
Again she looked at her first officer, understanding was dawning across his features. "Those creatures were the inhabitants, the T'Kon. They were the civilian population, family's, women and children. They were innocent".
Her words sounded inadequate, hollow given her condition.

"I had a feeling it would be something like that." Vos sighed, his shoulders slumping a bit. "I knew that just killing them was wrong, but if we hadn't they would have killed and eaten or turned the rest of the crew. I know I made the right decision to fight them and there was nothing else I could have done, but I look back and wonder if I was wrong. 'Kill it' is the Klingon way of doing things...not Starfleet. I wish we could have saved at least some of them." It was as if a shadow had fallen across his face for a moment before he wiped a hand over his cleanly-shaven cheeks. "What about the Queen? She seemed more sentient than the others. Was she just an innocent, too? Or did she have something to do with the weapons that turned them into those things?"

"There's no information about her in here", she tapped a few controls and the alien database returned to shots of the obelisk. "It was design to keep intruders from landing on the planet", she indicated a section of the hieroglyphics on the north face of the huge monument weapon. "I have been able to translate this small section. Its a warning that the T'Kon have made a mistake, that they are unable to control their weapon. They made a monumental error and their race paid for it. They don't want anyone to land on the planet as those creatures were uncontrollable", she reached a soft gentle hand out and placed it on Vos's arm. "What ever you may be feeling, you did the right thing. You saved this crew and I owe you a debt of gratitude".
Tears threatened to spill as all the emotion came flooding to the surface. Everything that had happened to her and her crew, and the man in front of her was the reason they had escaped.
