Office Meeting

Posted on Sun Jan 25th, 2009 @ 9:51am by Lieutenant Michael Lake

Mission: Echoes of the Damned: Pilot Episode.

Mike "showed" Beverly to her office, he had no idea why, but he was going to let her in first, as any good Starfleet officer would do.

She was wondering what Mister Lake wanted, she also needed time in her office to order the things to send back too Captain Jennings wife.
She glanced at the box with his belongings in it and it pulled at her heart. how was she going to break it to his wife.
She took her seat behind her desk and looked at Mister Lake.

Mike looked down at the crate of things that belonged to the old captain. He then looked up to the new CO "Do you want me to take care of it, I know his sister, we went through the academy together."

"No", she looked back at the crate, "Its something I need to do. I have to contact his wife".

Mike nodded with understanding "Aye, ma'am... if I may speak freely?"

She nodded in his direction, waiting for what he had to say. Truth be told, she was still a little annoyed at him for his outburst on the bridge, but not just at him. Lieutenant Mason had some answering to do as well.

Mike looked at her with concern "How are you?"

"With all due respect Lieutenant, that is inappropriate for you to ask. I am now your commanding officer", she cast an eye his way, "But given the circumstances I do appriciate your concern", she took a moment to think of what to say. "I'm bareing up. This was unexpected".

Mike gave an understanding nod "Sorry ma'am, I didn't mean to pry into your emotions. The crew for what I have seen is pulling up pretty well. It seems the senior staff was hit hardest."

She wasn't suprised, Captain Jennings was close to all of his senior officers, but the conversation was getting uncomfortable for her. She had to develop a detachment from her crew like all CO's. She may have been friends with Mike before, but now she was his commanding officer, and he needed to realise this.
"Lieutenant, you do understand that I am now your commanding officer, and conversations like this are now unacceptable?".

Mike arched his eyebrow "No, I didn't. Although with Captain Jennings, we always had talks about how we were and all that..."

"Captain Jennings had been a CO for years Mike. You have too understand that I need time to find my feet. I'm still your friend, but its different now", she desperatly hoped he understood and that he wouldn't take offence.

Mike nodded slowly nodded "Cool." He turned 'Mr Starfleet Officer' back on "I'll see you back on the bridge, ma'am."

"I'm sorry Mike. Just give me time, and just remember my door is always open". She offered a weak smile. This wasn't going to be an easy transition. Most of the crew had and were her friends. How could they adapt to the change in her position.

Mike gave a smile that was almost testement to how he felt. He slowly backed off and exited.

Her whole body sagged and her heart felt heavy. She needed somoene to talk too, but it had to wait. Her mission advisor for this area of space was due within the hour. All she knew was he was a Klingon. This was going to be interesting.
She eventually composed herself and walked back onto the bridge.
