Mission: Into The Scorpion's Nest. Season 2, Episode 5
Location: Promenade

Cupping a steaming beverage in both hands Lieutenant Commander Mason took a pause from her duties to watch the population mill around her. The previous agitated mood from the lock down had finally subsided giving way to a more relaxed atmosphere.
However it wasn't all peace and quite she knew from much experience, some at personal cost. She tapped the edge of the mug with impatience: Lieutenant Shire was late which was quite unlike her, unless she'd been spending the last few off duty hours with her partner Viola...

"Sorry I'm late Commander," Helen suddenly appeared depositing herself in the vacant seat. "I've been doing some talking among the crew, and I think I'm on to something," Shire babbled before Mason had even had chance to speak.

Mason opened her mouth to respond but it seemed Helen had the bit firmly between her teeth and wasn't going to stop for nothing: "First I thought it was nothing, I mean just simple communications, muddled but normal. Then I saw the same in a few over places - orders, transmissions, documents that sort of thing but they just don't make sense." She paused to take a steady breath bracing herself for onslaught: "I think there is something wrong with the Captain or Commander Ulonova."

"Lieutenant," Mason said heavily. "What are you talking about? I've just been speaking with both Zor and Leanne and I can assure you nothing is a miss with either."

"But - " Helen injected.

Mason held up her hand to stop her, "However I did too question their order."

This was not unheard of Shire knew. Her chief had been in trouble before regarding the chain of command: "And?"

"I'm being reassigned."

"Reassigned?" Shire gasped, wide eyed. "Why?"

"Beats me," Mason toyed with the mug. "I want you to head up the department, and I would like to follow that up, discreetly."

"You believe me?"

"I trained you to think like me, and I've been hearing the same things as you. Discreetly remember?"

"Aye sir."

"Good," Mason nodded. "I've been informed the station is to receive a marine detachment, and although they'll not my favorite type good relations should be made where possible. Now if you'll come with me there is someone I'd like to you met."
