Mission: All Souls Descend. Season 2, Episode 6
Location: CoB office
Timeline: ???

Ethan paid no mind to the multitude of people that pushed passed him to get in and out the transport he'd just gotten off of, his eyes fixed on the padd he carried in his hands. Not paying any mind to the muttered 'excuse me's and apologies for pushing him a bit, Ethan suddenly felt someone grab his arm and pull him to the side. Startled at the sudden contact, the blond crewman jumped in surprise, dropping his padd.

"Woah, calm down," the familiar woman said, kneeling down to pick up the dropped object and handed it back to Ethan, who took it gratefully, still a little jumpy. "Thank you," he said, clearing his throat to get his voice back into a normal pitch.

"Just wanted to see if you had any idea where you had to go," she said. The young looking woman (though apparently 10 years his senior), reminded Ethan of his sister, with her long blond hair pulled up into a bun. She wore a uniform with teal trim and had an easy smile on her lips.

Ethan himself hadn't worn a uniform during the trip, opting for something more casual and comfortable.

"Yeah, I do. I have a list," he said, shaking the padd in his hand in emphasis.

The woman's smile widened slightly, amused. "Of course," she just said. "Well, good luck, honey," she added, reaching up and giving his flushed cheek a small pinch. "Bye!"

As he watched her walk off, Ethan touched his pinched cheek with a look of distaste on his face. Why did people always treat him like a baby? Sure, he knew he looked younger than his 22 years, but he wasn't fresh out of training; he'd been in the Fleet working for nearly 3 years. Sighing and letting the thought go, he looked at the list in his hands again. First person he had to meet with was the Chief of the Boat.

'Chief Warrant Officer Akina Jrez', he read. 'Well that tells me nothing,' Ethan decided, having always been terrible in distinguishing alien names.

"Computer, please locate CWO Akina Jrez," he ordered.

"CWO Akina Jrez is on the Promenade," the monotone voice of the computer replied.

"Thanks a lot..." Ethan muttered, looking over the vast, crowded promenade. Gripping the strap of his bag a little tighter, he started walking through the crowd, figuring his best bet was to just head up to the man's office and wait.

Jrez was solemn as he walked out of the bar. He'd intended to get roaring drunk but was thankful that that hadn't happened. He was not due back on duty for some hours yet but these were hours when he could don his 'Chief of the Boat' hat and assess how morale was holding up below decks.

Lost in thought, he almost ran into a young man. "I'm sorry," he said. The man was human and not in uniform so Jrez assumed he was a civilian. He held out his hand in what he knew to be the time honoured human greeting. "Chief Warrant Officer Akina Jrez," he said.

"Oh..." Ethan let out, a little surprised at the man's greeting. People didn't usually just introduce themselves after bumping into him. Well, they didn't on his last post anyway. As the man said his name, Ethan's face visibly brightened in a grin with a mix of excitement and surprise at the coincidence.

"No way!" he let out before catching himself. "I mean, this is amazing. I was just going to look for you!" Ethan explained, taking the Trill's hand and giving it a shake. "I'm Crewman Ethan Cooper," the young man introduced himself. "I'm the Commanding officer's new Yeoman," he added.

'Huh, Trill,' he thought to himself as he let go of the officer's hand. 'I was sure he'd be Bajoran...'

"Look," Jrez said, "I'm on my way down to Engineering. We've been through a lot here lately and I want to see how the crew's holding up. From there, I intend to work my way through the various departments. How about I give you a quick tour of the ship from the crew's perspective?

Ethan's eyes widened and he nodded. "Yes, of course, that sounds great. Thank you, sir," he said enthusiastically.

"Sir? Are you an enlisted person?" Jrez asked.

"Yes, sir," Ethan said, looking a little worried.

"Then you should know that I am not an officer. You do not address me as sir. Warrant Officer will suffice. So....let's go see how things are looking below decks. Keep your eyes and ears open and your mouth shut and you just might be able to impress the new captain with your knowledge."

"Yes, Warrant Officer," Ethan said, his mood dropping significantly. He thought it was best he keep his mouth shut and not bring up the fact that even warrant officers were 'officers'. They just weren't Commissioned Officers. Then again, his father wasn't an officer either and he still called him sir. Ethan followed quietly, trying to shove away the image of the CoB sitting on a throne, demanding everyone around him address him very loudly as 'Warrant Officer'.

He tried to not let his smile show on his face. The idea continued to amuse him so much that Ethan nearly collided head first into one of the columns that held up the upper section of the Promenade. Blushing at his sudden clumsiness, Ethan cleared his throat uncomfortably, avoiding the CWO's gaze. Great start I've got going here... he berated himself, trying his best to not get stuck in his own thoughts anymore.

Jrez also smiled. By the end of this little tour this new crew member would be calling him Chief, just like everybody else; for now, it wouldn't do him any harm to have a serving of protocol.
