What else to do?

Mission: Purgatory's Shadow. Season 2 Episode 7
Location: Dennis' Bar

With nothing better to do with his time until the senior officers returned from their extended sabbatical, Harrison decided to indulge in what passed for entertainment in this hole.

As he walked along the Promenade, he noticed that a new establishment had opened.

In for a penny, in for a pound, he thought. Anyway, if it’s new it might not yet have succumbed to the malaise that seems to suck the life out of this station.

It was quiet inside but he decided to give it the benefit of the doubt. It must be hard starting out and getting a foothold in the market. Now, what to drink? Saurian brandy and Andorian ale both loomed large on the horizon but he decided against them. Much as he might like to drown his sorrows he was aware of the responsibilities of his rank. Nor did he want to give any ammunition to his detractors. He had no doubt someone on the station had been given the task of keeping tabs on him.

He remembered a beer his brother had introduced him to. It was one of the few things he was thankful to him for. He smiled. Let’s see what sort of range this bar has?

“Coopers, please,” he said to the barman. “Sparkling ale.”

Chris approached the person at the Bar. "No worries coming straight up" Chris picked up a glass and started to pour the Ale.

"So, being new here I'm not sure who anyone really is apart from the Commanding Officer of the station who I only really know through a brief conversation" Chris finished pouring the pint and passed it over to the customer.

"So tell me more about yourself, what do you do here?" Chris leant on the bar eager to hear.

Great, Harrison thought, another one who thinks their primary role is to not to serve drinks but to chat with customers. “I am the new Commanding Officer,” he said, hoping that would be enough. He turned half away from the barman and picked up his glass. He looked at the ale. It had been poured from a bottle. That spoke well of the establishment: replicated muck wasn’t the norm here if this was any indication. "It has been a long day," he added in an attempt at civility he did not really feel. "I would appreciate being left to myself for a while before I throw myself back in at the deep end."

With that he walked off, found himself a table, sat and drank his ale.
