Winding Down

Posted on Tue Aug 13th, 2013 @ 4:50am by Lieutenant Colonel Wolfric Bannister

Mission: Part of the Team
Location: Bannister's Quarters
Timeline: 2045 hours

Wolf stretched after having changed out of his pseudo uniform into a comfortable and loose fitting ocre tunic and a baggy pair of grey sweatpants. It'd been hours since the picnic, which still left him a bit boggled. The former marine was not one to get attached easily nor quickly. Soraya was the first woman in a long time who seemed a likely candidate. Anna was one of the sweetest kids he'd ever met too.

He shook his head after that thought as his mind switched to remembering his talk with O'Reily. He sighed and softly said, "Well, shit."

Peeving the Chief Counselor was bad enough. Cheezing off the Captain and Chief Medical Officer were only slightly worse in his book. However he wasn't quite willing to give up so easily if and until he found out he had no chance at a real relationship with her. He hoped.....His stomach chose then to rumble, breaking his revelry.

He thought for a moment and said, "Computer, food replicator: 2 pork shoulder tostadas, easy scallions, medium celantro. On the side add a small cup of guacamole, small cup of refried beans topped with queso blanco and one flour tortilla, warm. Cinnamon churro for dessert. Jasmine tea with honey to drink, chilled."

After carrying the food to the table, Wolf dug in with a will. This type of meal was a rare treat, this particular one having been introduced to him by a friend from the city of Oaxaca in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. He'd never forgot it and kept the replicator file for it where ever he went. Once done he returned the dishes to the replicator for recycling and thought for a long moment.

"Computer.....Search entertainment records for the motion picture 'Inherit the Wind.' Display on wall viewer, 60 second delay. He'd set up the viewer for decoration and the occasional subspace meeting with some of his Marshal service comrades. Some the meetings could get a lot of draw making them far too much for the little desk screen. He could also pipe in scenic images or what was showing on the main ops screen if needed. Other times, he could give in to the occasional urge to an itch given to him by a journalist and historian friend of his years ago.

He settled in onto the sofa as the movie started to play. He only half watched the film as his mind played back the events of the past few days. The interception of the Romulan smugglers, meeting many of his new colleagues, lunch in the cafe....However what dominated his mind most was the date with Soraya and the encounter with O'Reily. So much so that when he fell asleep 3/4 of the way into the movie, both invaded separate parts of his dreams.
