Problem.... What problem?

Mission: Trouble on the frontier
Location: Engineering

Jacobsen had been running and re-running his tests on the containment field on the Rigelian freighter. That is, when he was not scratching himself. He was doing a fair bit of that of late.

“Lieutenant,” he called to TriMar, “could you have a look at this please?”

Jar'Ho walked over to Jacobsen's station and looked over his shoulder.

“Watch this readout of the containment field closely, please. It appears to fluctuate wildly. Now....” He pressed some buttons on his console. “....if I slow it down.”

Jar'Ho furrowed his brow as he looked at it. "I don't see anything out of the ordinary."

“At first, I didn’t notice any difference either. But look at this analysis of the wave patterns. Look here....” He pointed at one section of the readout. “....here....” Another. “....and here....”

"They look the same."

“Precisely, they’re almost exactly the same. The fluctuation is cycling through a pattern which has been generated to look like it's random.”

"What is your theory?"

“I think there was nothing wrong with that containment field. I think someone deliberately set it to appear to be failing when, in fact, it was doing no such thing.”

"What would that accomplish?"

“That, Lieutenant, I can’t answer.”

Jar'Ho thought for a moment, then made a decision. He hit the comm button on the console. =^=Engineering to OPS.=^=

"Ops here, what can I do for you?" asked Lissan.

=^=Is the Rigelian Freighter still docked?=^=

"It just left dock 13 a few minutes ago. Anything wrong?"

=A=Tell them to heave to and prepare to be boarded. There's something not right about the freighter.=A=

"One moment...." she replied "They're not responding to any hails.

=A=Can you get a tractor beam on them.=A=

"No, they have already gone to warp."

Jar'Ho slammed his hand on the console. =A=Then put out an alert for them.=A=

"Will do that now," she replied, a little frustrated that she couldn't get a lock on the freighter.
