Where do I fit?

Posted on Thu May 29th, 2014 @ 11:56am by Staff Sergeant Wyatt McRaven

Mission: Trouble on the frontier
Location: DS12

Staff Sergeant Wyatt McRaven was running the troops through their morning calisthenics when he heard someone yell, "Attention on Deck." He had the normal reaction. He stopped what he was doing and went to the position of attention. He turned and saw 1st Lieutenant Graham Monty coming his way. He turned back to his men. "Fall In!!!" There was the rustling as the squad moved into formation. He turned back to Monty and saluted.

Monty snapped a sharp salute back. "Thank you, Sergeant." Okay, meeting the troops. Meeting the - gracious, the holodeck just couldn't do the moment justice - troops. His huge hands were sweating. Without particularly paying mind to it, and hoping it didn't show on his face, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled little piece of paper. Noting the look of amusement from some of the marines, the lieutenant offered a shy grin.

"Be gentle, it's my first time."

There was a smattering of laughter. Better with him than at him. Alright.

He glanced back down at the note paper.

"Alright, so." He winced at the sappy little speech he had written down. Yeah, why did he think that would be a good idea? That wasn't going to work. Let's go with honesty, then, and hope for the best. "Basically, I went through boot camp like all of you, graduated with honours unlike most of you, and spent some time at academy learning how not to screw up. That's what makes me the ell-tee." He grinned a bit, hopefully. "If you don't have any questions, it'll be a pleasure working with and for you, I hope."

McRaven wondered about Monty. He seemed like a nice guy, just a little green. He should be used to that by now. He would do his darnedest to make sure that when they faced combat, Monty would be ready.
