Help for the wounded

Posted on Mon Jun 23rd, 2014 @ 9:45am by Petty Officer 1st Class Vartog

Mission: Trouble on the frontier
Location: Councellors' Office

Vartog hesitated before going through the door in front of him. He had taken this on of his own initiative which was a big step for a Klingon. He did not like to admit there was anything wrong with him; he was a warrior among a race of warriors. Warriors do not admit to failings, especially emotional ones.

He drew a deep breath then entered.

Surprised at the visitor Nicholas rose to greet him as the towering Vartog entered. "Petty Officer, how can I help you?" the counsellor asked sensing distress emitting from him.

“I have disgraced myself and I have disgraced Madame Ambassador.” Vartog gave a quick rundown of events since Haqtaj left for Q’onos, ending with the incident in the dead Security Officer’s quarters.

"I see," Nick nodded as Vartog continued.

“Madame Ambassador has offered to take me back into her service. It is not an offer I feel entitled to. I do not feel worthy of being a Klingon. I am a technician’s son. I have not fulfilled my destiny; I have done no mighty deeds worthy of song. Yet Madame Ambassador will take me back. How can I repay her faith in me?”

"Don't be so disheartened," the counsellor replied earnestly. "Think about what you've already achieved, who's says you've not fulfilled your destiny - just you! Sometimes we are our worst critic."

“There are warriors all over this station: Klingon warriors. I am not one of them. The KDF despises me and my House because we are not warriors. I wish to show them that they are wrong: I have to show them they are wrong.”

"You're right," Nick nodded. "Not everyone is born to be warriors, you have to carve your own path because no one else is going to do it for you. Good for you, Vartog." He smiled briefly. "What do you have in mind?"

“I do not know. Madame Haqtaj has offered me a lifeline. I will accept it. I don’t know where it will take me because I do not know where Madame will take me. She has a reputation for impulsiveness which worries me."

"But you don't have to become part of these impulses," the human reminded him. "Treat this opportunity as a fresh start, let Haqtaj know your concerns perhaps it could sway her to be thoughtful in her actions."

“Thank you, Counsellor,” Vartog said. “I will bear that in mind. Now, I must report back to Madame Haqtaj.”
