Nagara on Parade

Posted on Tue Oct 7th, 2014 @ 12:25pm by Civilian Haqtaj Matlh & Lieutenant Helen Shire & Ensign Nagara

Mission: The move

Nagara kept her head down and eyes on the ground. she walked in short strides as quickly as she could to the security offices. Her uniform felt hot and itchy and the collars and cuffs were stretched where she pulled at them when she wasn't aware.

Arriving at the door the small Ferengi walked to the counter, which came to eye level for her. She stood their waiting to be noticed for a few minutes till the man on the desk happened to look over and give a start of surprise.

"I didn't see you there," he smiled mistaking her for a child at first till he caught sight of the uniform. "What can I do for you ensign."

Nagara replied in a voice that was drowned by the general hubub of the Security office. The security officer cupped a hand to his ear and asked her to repeat what she had said. Nagara blushed, and fought to raise her voice.

"I would like to see Lt Shire, please," she managed.

The man checked the roster and nodded, "she should be at her desk if she is back from the CO's office, and repairing the... I'll give her a quick page."

=^= Lt Shire? There is a Feren... an ensign asking at the Security front desk for you. =^=

Fresh back from Harrison's meeting the Lieutenant had been pawing over personal files attempting to put a team together to investigate the empty station when Feren's call came across. Sighing she straightened, "Thanks I'll be there in a moment."

Hoping this wouldn't take too long given the task the Captain had now placed upon her Helen locked down her work space and headed toward the front desk. At first she couldn't see anyone expect Feren, a flash of annoyance flared momentarily as she moved closer. She'd give him a dressing down for wasting her time... then as she rounded the desk she saw a rather distinctive character wearing a slightly misshaped uniform. "Hello ensign I'm Lieutenant Shire, how can I help you?"

Nagara didn't lift her eyes to meet the others gaze, but she did manage to speak loudly enough to be heard, "I would like to volunteer for your advanced party to the new station, please."

Surprised the Ensign knew of the planned mission Shire took the request in her stride. "What makes you a suitable candidate?"

"I have a rating E1 on all operations systems and my father and brothers used to trade in Cardassian surplus, so I am familiar with much of it, especially that which may be considered less than marketable. It is why I was given this posting to begin with."

"I don't know yet what state the station will be in. Do you have much Zero G experience or combat experience aside from you initial training?"

The Ferrengi female blushed heavily, "N... no official training except for Starfleet basic. We... women aren't supposed to do work or even go off world, ma'am. But I was often made to clean the merchandise while my Father and brothers handled the marketing and salvage operations. I... was even allowed to do some maintenance on non essential equipment. My family was quite progressive."

"I'm glad to hear it," the Lieutenant smiled hoping to put the ensign at ease. "I never approved of the Ferrengi tradition of supressing women, they deserve better. We're just as capable if not more than our male counterparts."

Nagara seemed genuinely shocked, looking up at her superior with her mouth and eyes in an 'O'.

"I... I don't know about that, ma'am," she stammered, "but I would like to be on the team, please."

"Alright," Shire nodded. "Report to shuttle bay three and zero eight hundred tomorrow."

Nagara nodded and then a quiet, "Thank you," to both Shire and Feren, before quickly returning to her preparation.
