Mission: Trouble on the frontier
Location: Undisclosed Media Center

"Now, sweetie, tell us again what happened. It is ok, we are here to help." The host of the program looked down at the little girl and smiled. Her eyes wide, still covered in a bit of dirt. The bright lights of the studio set blaring down at her.

"Well, we were on a routine mission and" she sniffed, tears starting to well up in her eyes. The host reached across the chair and hugged the little girl.

"Sugar, it is ok, it is ok." The host cuddled up next to the girl.

"We got a distress call, mommy, daddy, and their friends went out to help the blond lady, she said her ship had been attacked."

"What happened then?"

"The blonde lady and some other guy, they were wearing uniforms, they blew us up, all of us, mommy, daddy, uncle Charlie, Chex"

"Who was Chex, Zalia?" the host leaned in, the camera crew zoomed in close on the little girl.

"Chex was my new puppy..." the tears flowed down her face.

"And did that Blonde lady help you?"

"No..." she grew silent.

"And what happened next..."

"Mommy saved me, she put me in a pod and sent me away before the ship boomed, I.. I can still see her face through the window." The girl grew paler.

"Do you know who these bad people worked for?" The host cocked a slight smile and held the microphone closer to the little girl

She nodded, "The Federation"

"Friends, you have it here, the Federation, purveyors of wonton murder, breakers of families. How long, can we let their callous destruction go unanswered? We'll talk about it next after these messages."

Lax started slow clapping, while the rest of the crew joined in. The little girl stood up and wiped away the tears, and the dirt on her face.

"How was that Commodore?" The girl lost any air of cuteness and helplessness.

"Great love great! The water works were wonderful, the bit about Chex.. great!" He walked over and gave her a hug, producing a PADD for her to receive payment.

"And what about me Lax! I aint just no run of the mill talent either." The host scowled at Lax.

"Oh Winnie, you did great too." Lax produced another PADD and handed it to her.

"Coming back from commercial in thirty seconds, the new Rendo're Raiders spot is up." The stage manager signaled the crew to get back into positions.

"Great! Make sure we get holocube push through metrics of interest on that! Make sure it is bounced through the Ratizi comm network, I want to make sure that it goes to that sectors recruiting wing.

"Aye Commodore" The stage manager motioned to one of the grips to move something. "When we get back, I want to spin up the recreation of the ambush, I want that to be the lead back into the show. Ten seconds!"

"Five, four" the stage manager held up three fingers,
Two Fingers
One Finger

Five small freighters speed towards a distress beacon, the handsome captain, his beautiful wife, and lovely daughter are in the lead as they come across the buoy beaming a distress signal.

Uncloaking off of their starboard bow, a Starfleet Dreadnaught, twice the size of a Galaxy Class Starship comes into view, immediately firing a volley of Phasers, Photon Torpedos, and Subspace weaponry at the intrepid fleet. The lead ship swerved in to try and take the initial volley, alas, it is for naught. All of the ships are instantly vaporized save the lead ship.

*inside ship*

A mother runs, carrying her small child, explosions are heard through out the ship. She reaches the escape pod and pushes her child in, hitting the button on eject, and sending the little girl to safety. She watches, knowing she'll never see her daughter again.

The woman runs back to the bridge, and leans leans next to her dying husband as a man and woman appear on the viewscreen.

"Pirate vessel.....This is Colonel Wolf Bannister commanding the Federation Marshall Service ship Wyatt Earp. We heard that there might be some dogs on the lawn of the new Deep Space 12 and, well, we figured we'd do what we could to avoid that. Oh, I do believe you might know my deputy from somewhere."

"My partner earned a beer and I have a date with a young girl for some gagh. In short: Screw you," the colonel said glacially, his face gaining a predatory grin as a transphasic torpedo dropped out from under the Earp and streaked toward the pirate ship.

"Zalia" The woman let out the name of her daughter, as the torpedo connected with the ship, vaporizing it.

(end scene)

"That, that my friends." Winnie sat looking into the holocamera, "If that is your idea of safety and security, I'm not sure we want that here..."
