Planning on the fly

Mission: Trouble on the frontier
Location: USS Steadfast
Timeline: Apx 15 minutes after "Underway and Joining Forces"

Wolf had managed to get a little work done as they got closer to the goal. It was still going to be a little while before they got to where they were going though. It wasn't lost on him that Jill had gotten quieter since their earlier exchange.

He got up and went over to where she was working and leaned against a bulkhead next to her giving her a very small smile, "Got a sec?"

"Sure, do, nothing here but EM frequencies and Klingon boasting over subspace." Jill was holding up her head with her hand, visually scanning the comm frequencies. The ensign sitting next to her had long abandoned trying to talk to her. "What can I do for you?"

"I need someone who's pretty talented with computer operations and such. Some crazy person said you might be the right person. I dunno if I trust his opinion and all. He's one of them madman from that big red planet near Earth," the light Colonel said with a note of levity.

She looked up briefly from the bandwidth frequencies. "Yeah? What do you need?"

The Marine glanced over at the nearest station, "Ensign....Why don't you take a couple minutes break for some coffee?"

The junior officer was about to say he was fine, but after looking up at the ship's CO, he got up and said, "Aye, sir. Thank you sir."

After the other officer cleared out Wolf said quietly, "I presume you'd enjoy raising a little hell with the pirates....and perhaps the Klingons if they get cute?"

"You know, anymore, I don't even know." She sat up in the chair and finally looked at Wolf."Other than moral support I suppose, I'm not even really sure why I'm out here. All of this is buttoned up without me. Revenge doesn't even sound that interesting anymore. I still don't even really know the plan, or where he is, I feel a bit out of the loop on all this."

"There's a reason why it's been kept under wraps, Jill. The ship had a large detail of specially cleared marines and security officers sweep each section room by room in teams no smaller than 3. Since then the ship's been fully crewed leaving every shared area staffed or else populated pretty much round the clock or else they've been fitted with special security measures and guarded," he said in a low voice set not to carry.

He shrugged and continued with a wry smile with a sincere sparkle in his eyes, "Paranoid perhaps but after nearly having our respective asses shot off I figured it's better safe than sorry. Technically even Captain Harrison doesn't even have all the details so don't feel to bad. I'll give out the general orders to the crew in a bit but we have some time. It's past time for you to get the gory details though."

Bannister stood fully and gave his deputy a chance to stand before gesturing toward the ready room. His hard features had manage to soften a fair deal as they'd been talking.

Forst stood and straightened her uniform, she didn't like the way it fit or felt. She strode towards the room, trying to get off the bridge as expediently as her feet would allow her.

The senior marine followed calling, "Helm, you have the con."

He received an confirmation before he entered the ready room after his deputy. As the doors closed behind him, he headed for the desk and said, "I'd planned on getting you more detail before this but, as you know, with the Pirates, the Gaspar situation, and this little party things've been kinda chaotic."

The colonel gestured toward a chair before gesturing again toward the utilitarian replicator, "Have a seat. Interested in a drink or snack?"

"No I'm good on both accounts at the moment." She sat down in the chair and straightened out the oppressive uniform. "So..." She let it hang in the air just long enough, "What do you want to talk about."

"Firstly, the plan of attack. I think that you'll like it," Wolf said before taking a seat before launching into detail. He included the location, the general approach vectors and a few outlined ideas on how he intended to snatch the vicious bastard who was causing all the issues including a few creative ideas on a bit of havoc that Jill could contribute. He leaned back as he wrapped up, giving her a curious glance at the end wanting her feedback and hoping that she'd like the plan overall.

The detective leaned back in her chair, she rolled the idea around in her head for a few moments. "I'm not sure what to think to be honest. How do we know this isn't a trap. I mean, he's a thug, and scum, and a villain in the darkest sense of the word. He may have even leaked information to us."

She stopped and rubbed her face. The whole thing was exhausting.

"Considering the information came from a sentient I served with both in the Marshal's service and the Corps and we've saved the others lives more than once.....I ain' too worried about it. He's quite the mole actually," the senior marine said with a small smile.

"Well, I guess I'll trust you then, just remember a moles sometimes don't realize which way they dig" Jill closed her eyes for a moment. The tactical VDD was giving her a headache, a sign that it wasn't aligned properly.

"There's something else I need to talk to you about as well, actually," Wolf interjected into the conversation.

"Yeah, what is that cowboy?" Jill opened her eyes again and looked at the Marine. She could only guess what he was going to ask her.

"Knowing how much you love taking orders, I found the perfect position for you during this mission aside from doing what you do best," Wolf said with a wry smile.

Before Jill could respond he added, "Computer....Classify 1st Lieutenant Jillian Forst as Executive Officer, USS Steadfast, for the duration of this mission. Authorization Bravo Sierra X-Ray Fife Niner Beta Green. Confirm."

The computer confirmed the order almost immediately. With a lopsided grin he noted, "Now you don't have to worry about orders from anyone but me. I'll take it easy on you unless the horse apples seriously start hittin' the fan. Think you can manage that?"

"Yeah I suppose, though I'm only good at taking care of myself, you should know that by now." She folded her arms. "I'll try not to get in the way."

Wolf's face softened as he gave Jill a sincere smile before saying, "Jillian Forst....We have been partners for a while now. You've never been in my way. Point in fact, I've been proud to have you by my side. I sincerely do not see that changing any time soon."

"Well, we'll see what happens when we get back. The offer to join the private life is still on the table and the opportunity to give up all of this." She extended her arms, making a motion to the austere room they were currently sitting in.

Wolf smirked and nodded. There was genuine warmth in his eyes when he replied, "As a legend once said....There are always possibilities. Regardless, I hope we get to keep working side by side for a long time to come."

Jill sat and contemplated the situation, Gaspar, the Pirates, Lax, her and Wolf out here going after them. No matter how many times she tried to make the numbers work, they just didn't add up. "How long before we get to where we are going?"

Wolf checked a chrono on the desk display and said, "78 minutes. We're taking a bit of a roundabout route there to avoid some sensors and space obstacles that even a cloaked ship would leave telltales if we flew too close. A dust cloud and proto-nebula to be exact."

"Well, we better get ready I guess. Got anything else for me?" This might be a good chase, it might be something legit. She'd know in the next Seventy Eight Minutes or so what was actually going on.

"Not really. Swing in, batter his base's defenses, grab him and his crew, then run like hell back home. After they're hauled back to Earth or wherever we have a party....First round will be on me. Other than that, if I think of anything I'll let you know and if anything comes'll know when I know," he said with a smile.
