Mission: Trouble on the frontier
Location: USS Steadfast / USS Tolstoy

Wolf was in his cabin and it was going to be the better part of a couple of hours. He was worried. That alone was not uncommon but he was not worried for himself. It wasn't wanting to make sure the mission was a success that was the challenge. Anna was safe with her....For lack of a better term, God Mother. Hell itself would have a bad time getting past Haq.

Jill was under his protection and that of the crew. He sighed and sat at the terminal and said, "Computer. Access protocol Corrus/Bannister 13 79 10-6 10-9. Access protocols and relays to the Starship Tolstoy. Lt. Commander Soraya Delrisa. Engage."

He waited. There was little to do but for the moment, though time was shorter than he liked. He hoped the relays and the cloak & dagger took faster than he....expected.

Doctor Soraya Delrisa was asleep when the computer raised the lights slightly.

"Lieutenant Commander Delrisa, live relay from Lieutenant Colonel Wolfric Bannister, from the Starship Steadfast."

"Delrisa Gamma-Epsilon-Theta Twenty-nine Eight-oh-Four, initiate relay," the doctor said, yawning. An image appeared on the terminal next to her bed. She grinned.

"Hello my love," she said, blinking her eyes. Her smile melted away as she noticed the look of worry on her boyfriend's face. She sat up a little. "Wolf, what's wrong?"

Wolf felt guilty seeing that he'd woken her up. Though seeing the beautiful face he grew to love did put his mind at ease even more than he believed it would.

"Nothing. Nothing serious anyway....Operational jitters, I suppose. I'd say I'm not sure why I am feeling it so keenly I am feeling it now but that'd be a lie. This is the biggest mission I've had since having someone to come home to," he said fixing her with a warm smile that melted away a lot of the worried look.

"You're scared because of me?" she asked softly. "I don't want you to be distracted."

"I'm not too worried about you. A little maybe but you can handle yourself I think and you're in good company. My end of the mission should be pretty cut and dry as well. It's....Well, I've been thinking...." Wolf said before trailing off a little meditatively.

"Thinking about what?" she asked as she sat up completely.

"Life. Win or lose, I am thinking about turning in my badge after all this is over. DS12 has become my home. I don't love the potential idea of leaving for long periods of time on a regular basis," he said looking into her eyes across the distance.

Soraya took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "That is a big decision, Wolf," she answered. A look of concern spread across her face as she looked at him. "Could you be happy without being a Marshall?"

His face went thoughtful for a moment before he blew out a breath before he shrugged, shaking his head as he said, "Honestly, it'd be an adjustment. I've been doing it for a while. Before that I was a combat marine. Now....."

Wolf's eyes focused on Raya again and he smiled before saying, "Now...I'll still be an officer. I am Executive Officer of a station that is home. For the first time in a long while....I have a family. I could get used to all that."

The doctor watched her boyfriend with her dark Spanish eyes as a blush rose slowly to her cheeks. She returned his smile.

"Yes, you do have a family, and we want you home."

He paused looking down at his desk thoughtfully for a couple of heartbeats before looking back up, "What...."

Wolf stammered for the first time in quite a long time but recovered after a fast couple heartbeats later, "Would you maybe consider making that a little more formal once this mess is over with?"

Soraya cocked her head... We already live together, she thought, not understanding... Wait, no...

"Wolfric Bannister, are you asking me to marry you?"

His mismatched eyes sparkling, DS12's XO replied, "I'd planned on asking in a slightly more traditional way but....Yes. Soraya Delrisa.....I love you. I have been in love with you for some while. I want to be yours for now and always. Will you marry me?"

Her smile widened and she blushed again, but Soraya's gaze never left his.

"Yes, I'll marry you."

Wolf broke into a wide grin, his own pale skin revealing a bit of a flush as he said, "More reason to get this damned thing over with. Once I give you the ring I got you, I think a celebration will be in order."

"This mission has only just begun, we won't see each other for weeks, or months," the doctor said, her smile fading.

Grinning with confident warmth, he replied, "Our part of the mission won't take long. Once we get our friend and his cohorts back to DS12 for trial we're largely done. We have deputies and JAG staff on the way to help security stow these creeps through the trial. After that he's undoubtedly going to a rehab colony. I should be able to leave the station to visit within a week or two at most if you're not back by then."

"I'd like that, hopefully we'll be stable here by then," she said, her smile returning. "So you'd better take care of yourself, your family needs you," she added softly.

Wolf's grin went a bit playful as he said, "Hey....We are talking about me after all."

"Exactly, so no crazy cowboy antics, then."

The marine broke into a broad grin, and lowered his gaze for a heartbeat looking at his desk as he suppressed a laugh. He got himself together and recomposed himself in short order.

He looked up more seriously though and said, "We'll work on keeping the madness to a minimum. If worse comes to worse I do have a hole card that should squash any cuteness. I've got an amazing thing to come home to after all. Two in fact. Nero and Daisy are pretty special too."

Bannister smiled a bit at that last part. His plan for this mission was simple enough. He knew first hand that no battle plan survived first contact with the enemy though. With all the tight spots he'd been in and with the crew he had he was sure that it'd be a successful mission and one hell of a homecoming though.

"I'll message you when we're planetside, less than 36 hours now I think," the doctor said, trying but failing to suppress a yawn. "I'll see you soon."

"Sounds good. Sleep well," Wolf said. After a heartbeat, "And Soraya?"

"Yes?"

Wolf smiled softly and said simply, "I love you."

"I love you, too," she said, smiling back.

The conversation ended and the channel closed. Wolf smiled to himself a little surprised at the unplanned events that just occurred. After a moment something came to him and he stood up and headed for the Steadfast's bridge.
