Political Agreement

Posted on Sat Nov 12th, 2016 @ 11:41pm by Ambassador Telhas thu'S'Terion Duke of Cheleb-Khor

Mission: Trouble on the frontier
Location: Romulan Embassy

Telhas did not waste much time after he had been shown the Romulan Embassy. He settled at his desk in the ambassador's office and established a secure call to Rator III, to the Senate's administration. Before the Romulan man appearing on screen could say anything, Telhas already started to talk. "Connect me to Senator Terson tr'Hiren."

"I am sorry, sir, but the Senator is currently not in his office."

"Ah, I see. Then get me connected to wherever he is. It is of great importance."

"My pardon, sir, but the Senator said..."

Telhas interrupted him. "I do not care what he said. It is urgent! I know that you can contact him in case of emergency. This is one! Tell him he has one hour to call me, otherwise his House's reputation will be damaged, understood?"

The man looked unsure. "Senator Telhas, if I may insist..."

"You may not! Time is running. Not only for him, but also for his nephew. Jolan tru!" Telhas hit the putton to cancel the communication. He wondered if Terson would call him back. If not then he would not hesitate to put his thread of damaging the reputation into action. At least this should be known already. And the hint with the nephew should give the other Senator a good idea what might be the problem.

It took only a few minutes before the screen indicated an incoming call. As soon as Telhas activated approved the communication the screen displayed the face of an angry man. Senator Terson tr'Hiren. The man immediately started to talk, or rather hiss. "You dare to threaten my reputation? You... dare... you... you..."

Telhas leant forward and smiled politely. "Senator Terson, how nice you found the time to call me back. Right to business, yes?" 'Pretty obvious he's a relative of Jenoth. They seem to have a problem with self-control,' he thought.

Terson took a deep breath. "What do you want?"

"Satisfaction," Telhas replied, "As your nephew, Jenoth, insulted me in front of the Embassy's staff. You know me, this would inevitable result in your nephew's death. Then people would ask questions and find out what he did. They would ask if your House is fit for a representative role. You see where this leads to?"

"He did what?"

"Please listen, will you?" Telhas asked leaning back in his chair. "So, my simple question. You are hru'hfihr of your House. Do you approve the duel or do you prefer a different solution, one where all of us are keeping our face?"

It took Terson several deep breaths before he replied. "What do you suggest?" he finally asked.

"Something very simple. First of all, you will never vote against me. Not in the Senate, not anywhere else. You may abstain from voting, but you may not vote against me."

"This is even aggressive for you, Telhas! Exploiting a moment of weakness in such a... such a way!"

Telhas grinned. "You are wrong. I show mercy. I could have exploited this to bring you down. My House is a Founding Member of the Senate. Your House did not even have a name after Planetfall. You should always be aware of my power." He paused for a second, looking as if he reconsidered. "Anyway, I am merciful. You know the first part of my offer, now listen to the second part. I am totally convinced that Jenoth needs to learn a good lesson of discipline. Discipline is everything! To achieve this I suggest that he joins the military for a ten-years officer program. He will get some true leadership experience, good lessons in discipline and maybe even a perfect reputation for his further career. And I will make sure that he will not be transferred to front lines unless he applies himself. This is my full deal."

"I can accept the first part. You will have any trouble with me or my House. But the second part," Terson shook his head," I cannot accept."

"Then we have no deal."

"What?"

"Take the entire offer, or refuse the entire offer. There is only yes or no." Telhas' eyes were cold as ice. "Your decision."

"Really, I cannot..." Terson could not complete his sentence as Telhas killed the connection.

The screen showed an incoming call. Telhas activated the communication.

"Please, understand that I..." again, Terson could not finish his sentence.

And again, he received a call.

"I agree," Terson said with a low voice.

"Pardon me, but I could not understand you," stated Telhas.

"I said that I agree to your offer, Telhas!"

Smiling politely, Telhas replied "I knew you would do the right thing. And please, do not be so stupid and break your word. I have recorded everything. Have a nice evening, Terson. Jolan tru."

"Jolan tru!"

The screen went black and displayed the emblem of the Imperial Romulan Senate.
