Mission: Ties To Blood: Season 1, Episode 3.

Beverly waited for the other officers to leave and the doors to close before she turned to the remaining ones.
"I have a few last things that I need to cover. First Ensign O'Brien... We have a problem!", she returned to her char behind the desk and took a seat. "Now that we are no longer primarily assigned to the Genesis we need to find you something to fly"

"if you want me to go and run the fighter wing. Just give the word." Henk said with a smile. "I Can have a great time there."

Leanne put her hand on the back of one the chairs and slowly moved around to the front of it. Her head still felt like it was spinning around like a top. "I'm sorry I should have asked first but I'm still not feeling well at all."

"Sorry Leanne. Please take a seat. I need to talk with you last, I have several things to ask and request of you".
She smiled at her friend and helped her into a chair before returning to Henk. "I'm glad you said that Mister O'Brien. I want you to assume Command of the fighter and pilots detachment on the station", again she smiled. "I still have some paperwork to push through, but you should be a Lieutenant Junior grade by tonight, as will you T'Arjia, that is assuming you want to head up the science and Scientific R&D aspects of the station?"

"I.." Henk said as he looked at Beverly. "It might take some time to make the fighterwings back to 100%. But I will do my best Ma'am."

T'Arjia stood stock-still, her outwar appearance not changing in the slightest in relation to the news "I would be pleased to continue operations aboard the station. As I stated, it would be illogical for me to leave at this time. I signed on to Starfleet to examne new species and, being located here will give ample time to study the local system's flaura and fauna, in addition to any other tasks that may come up"

"Well, thats agreed then. Lieutenant O'Brien and T'Arjia, you are both dismissed. Your promotions will become effective by this evening. Leanne, can you hold on for a moment longer?"
The concern in Beverly's voice over her friends condition was plain in her voice. Like a mother worrying over a child thats grazed its knee.

"Of course I can stay. I'm not exactly going to be running anytime soon so I'm sure you'll be able to catch me if I try to make my way for the door." Leanne smiled at her, even if it did hurt just to sit there she was going to try and hide it as best she could.

Beverly pulled a chair up next to her friend the concern plain across her face as if they were words in a book. "I know your hurting, so I'll make this brief", she gently cupped her friends hand. "I'm promoting your to full Lieutenant. I need someone in a more senior rank within medical. The reason being that this station, as I have found, is listed as having a Medical Ship attached to it. Now, regs state that a Command Level Officer should assume Command, but what do the rest of the senior officers know about medicine, your the obvious choice. However, you need to be the rank of Lieutenant Commander. This brings me to my next point", she looked at her friend intently wishing her better. "I would like you to consider taking the Bridge Officers Exam. It would mean promotion to Lieutenant Commander at the end but your a much more sensible choice than anyone else. Commander Lorran would be the examiner and you are the only Senior Officer I have that hasn't taken the examination already. I don't want you to start right away. Your health is more important to me than that. What do you say?"

Leanne thought for a moment about everything that Beverly was telling her. It was one of her dreams to be in command of a Starbase Medical Department or a Medical Ship, now both of those were within her reach, if only attached the to station. "Frankly, I'm honored I never expected this at all considering that I have only been out here such a short time." she shifted in her seat a bit still a bit in a haze from the information that was just given to her. "I'll also take the exam. I think it will be a good opportunity for me."

"Good. I'll set it up with Vos", now her direction shifted. "Now you should get bac to the Infermary. Do you want any help getting back down there?"

"That would be great we can walk together." Leanne carefully stood up holding the chair for support. "Whenever your ready."

Beverly slipped her arm around her Doctor and friend, shouldering most of her weight in supporting her. "You don't have to come to the ceremony tonight, but it would be nice if you could make it".

"I'm sure I'll be able to make it, even if I have to sign my own medical release papers I'll be there." It felt nice to have Bev help her down, she was getting her strength back more every day but it still hurt to move around. "Thanks Bev, I really appreciate it."

"No problem".
Each one hurting in their own way, and each one supporting in ways the other couldn't. It always struck Beverly as odd how the universe could through so perfect a symmetry into the simplest of things. Now, arm in arm, the two women helped each other make their way down to the Infirmary.
