Blast From The Past

Mission: The Futures Past. Season 1, Episode 4.

Livia sat back comfortably in her office as the old Galaxy class vessel sped toward its destination. The Marine Commandant was on her way to her retirement ceremony, but was stopping at every starbase and starship that she knew someone on. Starbase 611 was next on her list, the long time home of her friend Beverly. Figuring it would be rude to drop in unnoticed, she opened a channel to the station

Beverly appeared on screen looking older and more weatherd and tired than she had last time they saw each other, and Beverly couldn't help but think how good Livia was looking after everything that had happened to her in recent years.
"Commandant. How nice to see you again", she so much wanted to call her Livia after knowing each other so long it felt appropriate.

"Its been a long time, hasn't it Admiral?" Livia said with a smile. Time had not been good to her. The war with the Borg cost her one of her children and full mobility in the left side of her body. Regardless, she was steadfast, and stayed on active duty as long as Starfleet Command would allow.

Beverly smiled and wagged a weatherd hand in Livia's direction. "It has that. It must be going on almost three years now. I told you not to leave it too long", she teased.

Livia chuckled "It hasn't been easy getting around anymore. I just wanted to let you know that I'm on my way to your station for a quick visit. I'm due for my retirement ceremony on Earth in a few days, and I just wanted to stop by and say hello one last time. Don't worry, the Dauntless won't be docking so no need to stress your crew out, I'll just beam over once we arrive."

"Thank goodness. I don't think the old girl could deal with such a large ship actually docking. Starfleet still won't listen to my request to retire the old bird", she was of course refering to Starbase 611. "Mind you, I'm not complaining. She may be old, but she's served us well".

Livia nodded "Indeed she has, but you know how those old bats are. They'll keep her limping on until theres not a threat left in the galaxy." She playfully pointed a finger at Beverly "Now don't you even try to put anything together for my arrival, I'm too damn old for that." She paused a moment remembering what day it was "But when arrive, we'll have a toast...to friends long past."

"That we will", Beverly's mind instantly pulled up the memories of Zeek, Leanne and Henk. Three of her friends that had vanished without a trace almost twenty years before. Not to mention the dozens of others that were lost in the line of duty. "And if you think your getting away without an honour guard then your sorely mistaken. Its not often we get flag officers visiting us now. Any excuse to roll out the red carpet, no matter how moth eaten it is".

She smiled, knowing that her old friend wouldn't have taken no for an answer "Very well then, I'll hover my wrinkled butt down whatever carpet you have if I must. We should be arriving in roughly five hours, so I'll see you then. Harrison out." Livia was excited to see an old friend again, even if just for a short time, being in Beverly's presence always reminded her of better times, and it would be a nice way to enter her retirement.
