Kriss Cross

Posted on Mon Mar 1st, 2010 @ 2:34pm by Lieutenant Kriss Maxx & Chief Warrant Officer Akina Jrez

Mission: Human Nature. Season 1; Episode 6
Location: Promenade
Timeline: First day on the SB611

Max walked over to the turbo lift and stepped in. He tugged on his sleeves, straightened his uniform and pulled on his collar. He tried to relax and settle, it was his first day on the base and he wanted to make a good impression. He wasn't due to go on duty yet and he wanted to spend this free time getting his bearings, the doors closed with the predictable hiss.

'Promenade deck,' he requested.

It took just a few moments for him to arrive and when the doors opened he was greeted by a hive of activity. Glancing around he saw the various shops and leisure interests that the base had to offer. There was the Library, the bar and the Orion Restaurant and he took some photographs of the Observation Lounge and the view from the windows, not that there was much to see.

His stomach rumbled in discontent as he hadn't eaten for a long time but the Replimat was close at hand and he headed towards it. He would have liked to have had a tuna fish sandwich and salad but knowing Kriss's aversion to fish, which he couldn't understand, he would have to settle for something else.
He took up a table next to the window to enjoy his meal and the coffee, which he hoped tasted as good as it looked. He relaxed a little and watched what was going on, his mind drifting slightly away and then he was there, his voice in the far background, angry and edging ever closer, but Max pushed him away.

Finding Kriss Max was Jrez’s prime objective but sustenance needed to be sought. After over-long shifts on the Hope fuelled by little more than raktajino, his body was still crying out for something nutritious. So he put aside his quest in the interests of self-preservation.
No sooner had he stepped into the Replimat than he saw his quarry. A joined Trill can spot another joined Trill in a instant. He’d never really understood the biology of it but you just knew when you saw another one. He did not recognise the man which meant that this must be him – he knew every other Trill on the base – joined or not. He could, of course, be just passing through, but this man bore the air of someone making himself quite at home.
Jrez took a step towards him then hesitated. He had still not resolved his quandary. He took another step; cowardice won out.
“Hello there,” he said warmly. He held out his hand. “I’m Chief Warrant Officer Akina Jrez. I’m by way of being the Chief Science Officer aboard Starbase 611.”

'Hello' replied Max standing up and offering to shake the Chief's outreached hand 'Good to meet you'
Max had seen the fellow joined Trill walk over to him and sensed the symbiote he was carrying. 'Why don't you join me' said Max indicating to a chair.

“Mind if I just grab something to eat? I’m still recovering from extended duties in the sickbay on the Hope.”

Jrez returned with a plate of lasagne and proceeded to tuck in. “I gather you’re a doctor yourself,” he said between mouthfuls. “We could have done with you on the Hope.”

OOC: Max won't hesitate on his answers but he will lie. Hope that this is ok, it's out of my comfort zone really but anything you feel that's not quite right please tell me.

OOC: As long as it's in character, that's fine. Jrez is pretty good at dissembling when he sees the need.

Max had prepared himself for questions this was bound to be expected.

'I've been thinking about a change of career for a while now, and when the communications post came up I thought well let's give it a go. To be honest with you I didn't expect to get it' he paused and smiled 'If it wasn't for the language skills then I don't think I would have stood a chance' replied Max 'How about you have you been on the base long?'

“It seems like ages sometimes but, no, not long,” Jrez answered. “I was on the Explorer but our captain put in a request to return to Earth for personal reasons and the ship was decommissioned. You’ll find there’s a few of us old Explorers around the base. Actually, I haven’t even been in Starfleet all that long. I only signed up because of the acute shortage of personnel following the Dominion War. I’ve spent most of my adult life as a long-distance trader.”

And what’s that say of you, Akina Jrez? Who’s to say people aren’t looking at your abrupt career change and whispering: He must have Davares’ Syndrome. And who could criticise them for doing so?

Max finished his lunch which wasn't to bad considering all the reports he had heard about the food on the base.
He wiped his mouth with his napkin and pushed his plate away. This was going smoother than he had expected it too and he began to relax a little.
'So what does every one do here for relaxation and entertainment then?' Max asked.
