Mission: Human Nature. Season 1; Episode 6
Location: Holodeck

It had been an eventful first few days, Sara had made a few friends and work was going well. Now however it was time to relax, she had jumped into work straight away so her first port of call was the holodeck. She inserted the isolinear chip before tapping a few buttons on the control panel, it would only take a few moments before a few of her select favourite programs would be uploaded. As the computer beeped upon completion she thought hard about which to load.

"Computer, load program Lam 213" the excitement clear in her voice, it was a classic match that always made the hairs on her neck stand on end, an electrifying experience, "Program, loaded, you may enter when ready" replied the computer.

The 18,000 fans in the old Canada Hockey place made it feel like she was at home on Earth, the screaming and cheering was infectious. As the game unfolded Canada took the lead, then were pegged back, then took the lead again, victory was in sight but in the last few seconds their opponents once again drew level, now it was overtime, Sara could feel her voice becoming hoarse from the shouting and screaming but couldn't help herself, then just as the players returned to the ice the holodeck doors opened, Sara turned to look at the intruder, 'who the hell do they think they are' she thought.

"You know, the Russian teams were always better Hockey players in my humble opinion." Leanne stepped onto the holodeck looking around at the arena. The cold air almost instantly took her breath away, and it almost felt like home. She gazed at the furious woman who was giving her an evil look. "I'm sorry to intrude Commander, I thought that I had booked this holodeck, I more then likely got my numbers mixed up."

Sara's anger quickly subsided when she realised it was the stations chief medical officer, "computer, freeze program" she said as she leapt from her seat and began edging her way past the now static crowd, "To be honest Commander I've probably run over, its been known to happen especially when hockey's involved, you know much about the game?"

Leanne smiled and walked into the arena. "I used to skate alone, none of the other kids wanted to play with me, they used to call me lame Leanne, but you can't grow up back where I am from without learning about hockey, even if you had to watch it from afar." She moved over closer to Sara. "I'm not familiar with this game though, what happens?"

With a empathetic smile crossing her face Sara felt the pain in Leanne's past, "how about you take a seat and watch the last few minutes with me? I'm sure you'll enjoy it."

"I'd love to, it has been a while since I've watched it." She smiled and walked over to where Sara had been sitting. "Computer temporarily remove person in seat 13 please" The drunk looking man disappeared and she stood in the now empty spot. "Who's playing?"

"Computer resume program. The white shirts with the red trim is Canada, the blue are from the United States, two of the old nation states on Earth. Currently the score is two each, we're in overtime and it's sudden death!" she exclaimed looking round to Leanne.

"Exciting" Leanne smiled and watched as the play progressed. It really did feel like home watching the two teams have at it.

"Just wait" she said moving to the edge of her seat, knowing full well what was about to happen. As the puck hit the back of the net the crowd erupted, Sara was screaming at the top of her voice, what a feeling, the pride, the comradery, the atmosphere was electric and the scary thing was it was the same every time she watched the match.

Leanne smiled a bit, it was exciting to see a match even if she didn't have anything invested in it. "We'll have to play together sometime. Watching this is making me want to get back out on the ice."

"Well you'll need to bare with me, I skate but haven't played hockey since before the Academy. Perhaps we can arrange a time when I get back from my away mission?" enquired Sara as she was genuinely warmed to Leanne.

"Sounds great, It has been a little while for me too so it will be a great learning experience" Leanne smiled at the woman. "And besides, if I accidently knock out any teeth I can just put them back in for you."

Sara laughed "guess it'll be the blind leading the blind, although I'm sure between us we could fix that as well. Computer, end program." In a moment the screaming crowd was silenced and the emptiness of the holodeck grid appeared before them. "I'm sorry if this has eaten in to your holodeck time, I'll make it up to you, somehow" she said sheepishly.

"Don't worry about it." Leanne smiled at Sara. "I'll see you around the station."

At that Sara left the good Doctor to her own private holodeck time as she prepared to transport over to the MacArthur knowing full well there would be little time for rest over the next few days.
