Mission: Human Nature. Season 1; Episode 6
Location: Medical Research Lab 1

After the meeting with Commodore Quinn, Jack wasn't about to waste any time and immediately set off to gather together the small team he'd need for the mission.

Being that this was a rescue mission a medical officer would be a must have, any medical officer would do but the only one Jack could imagine taking was Helen. Which is why he now found himself outside the medical research department of 611 trying to figure out how to pitch this to her.

Coming up with a blank he just decided to bite the bullet and flat out ask her, moving through the door he came to sudden stop as his eyes swept over the sheer number of personnel and equipment arrayed around him.

This was the first time he'd seen Helen in her home turf and Jack could admit he was intimidated, as two med tech walked past him in a specialized medical scrubs he wished he'd through to change into something more appropriate, like an EVA suit.

Scanning the area he thought he made out Helen just a little ahead of him, not wanting to move any further into this strange new world he instead did something unprofessional and shouted across the lab to wards her "HELEN!"

Three heads turned around. Helen was a popular name on base at the moment....But Lyons would recognize that bellow anywhere and waved the other Helen's back to their work. Securing and placing the samples she was working on back in their containment unit, she stripped off her gloves and her face shield and made her way over to where Jack was standing by the door.

"What brings you here? You can't be that eager for me to give you another medical are you?" Helen said trying not to smile. She was surprised at how happy she was to see him standing here, though there was no way that she would ever let him know that.

Giving a slightly embarrassed smile over their first meeting he stumbled momentarily over his next words "Uh no, I think I still have some bruises from the last one" seeing her grin in reply brought a more genuine one to his face, but the moment was lost when he contemplated what he'd come here to ask "Actually I need to ask you something um sensitive. Is there any where we can talk in private?"

"Ahh, yes," Helen looked back into the lab and then glanced back at Jack and smiled. "I'm about due for a break now. Why don't we take a walk? If I stay still in here long enough, people will want to harass me."

Once the two of them where out in the corridor Jack suddenly found himself hesitant to ask her to join his team, originally he thought it would be a good way for her to deal with the recent trauma but now he wondered if it would just undo all the progress the two had made.

The fact was though he'd come this far and truthfully he couldn't think of anyone else he'd want by his side for this, so biting the bullet he launched into hid request "I'm gonna be leaving pretty soon on a mission and I'm hoping you'd be willing to come along".

The thought of Jack suddenly not being around made Helen's blood run cold. And it stirred something else within her that Helen did not want Jack to see.

"Leaving? Where are you going?" The words were out of her mouth before Helen realized that Jack had asked her to go with him. Helen looked at him, her confusion plain on her face. "You want me to come with you?"

"Yeah we're heading to Nebula R-160 on the wrong side of the Gorn/Tholian border on a rescue mission, that's why I wanted you to come along" he stole a quick glance but found her hard to read "But under the situation I'll understand if you'd rather recommend someone else".

Helen hesitated a moment before replying. The Gorn. Just the thought of them bought a shiver down her spine, but she was determined not to live in fear of them. They caught her unprepared before - they won't again.

"Of course I’ll go. You are not getting rid of me that easily Jack Daniels.” She smiled up at him, ignoring for now the sudden churning in the pit of her stomach. “You said it was a rescue mission? Who else is going?”

"Who ever I can grab free from Security since I doubt the Gorn are going to hand over the hostages willingly, speaking of which we'll going to have to head off in 5 hours or so to make it to R-160 so you might want to start getting you gear together."

"That quickly?" Helen looked at Jack in surprise but then got a hold of herself, quickly turning her mind to the problem at hand. "What type of ship will we be on and do we know how many people we will be rescuing? That will determine what medical supplies I bring." Then an embarrassed smile crossed her face, "And what exactly should I pack for something like this? I've never been on a mission before."

"This missions going to rely on cunning and stealth more than anything so we'll be using the runabout on docking pad 3, I know it's not going to be ideal for carrying medical supplies but anything bigger and we'll be detected from light years away".

Taking a quick glance to make sure she was still listening before he carried on "As for anything else you should pack a change of clothes, field rations and cleaning kit would be good as well as a personnel first aid kit". Deciding to try and lighten the atmosphere a little "And I'll bring the big guns".

Helen looked at Jack and gave him a wicked grin. "A girl always likes a guy with big guns."

Jack stopped dead in his tracks as his mind went in other directions, shacking off the thoughts quickly enough to see Helen go around the corner with a mischievous smile on her face. Jogging to catch up with her all he could think was Damn this girls going to get me into trouble, as he made it round the corner he also had a mischievous smile on his face.
