Mission: Human Nature. Season 1; Episode 6
Location: SB-611
Timeline: Current

Tom stepped off of the transport and planted heavily on the decking of the starbase, he had been at high warp for more then a week trying to get across the quadrant. He needed some time to get away, some time to think, some time to write, and some time to get away from the life that he was living. It seemed like a dead end.. nothing but do this, do that. He had heard from a friend that this starbase stood on the edge of the frontier, a place that you could go and no one would know you, a chance to get a fresh start.

"Hey, where can you get a drink and a bite to eat around here?" Thomas grabbed the arm of a Bajoran man wearing a security outfit.

"There are a few places over in the civilian area of the station, I suggest you check there and stop bothering me."

Thomas watched as the man walked away in a huff and started off towards where most of the trade was coming from. The station was bustling, people of all species, all origins mingling together. This was definitely going to be a place that was going to allow him to write.

Stepping into the first bar that he saw there was a few people in there, most notably and older human and an Andorian arguing about something and arm wrestling. Quietly, Thomas slid up to the bar and sat his few belongings down next to him and ordered a glass of water.

Milika turned around to look at the man that had walked up to the bar, she just stood their for a moment as she then smiled "Thomas? is that you?" Milika asked as she just stood their looking at him. She handed him the glass of water and smiled as her eyes sparkled as they always did.

He hadn't noticed her before, mainly because his head was sill a little spinning from the ship but he knew that he knew her from somewhere. "Yeah, it's me." He looked at her again kind of leaning forward over the bar, "Mililka? I... I.. it has to be you right?"

She smiled as she walked out from behind the bar "Ya its me alright Thomas," she said with a big smile on her face. She walked up to him and gave him a big hug, "What are you doing here? I haven't seen you since...well forever," she said as she just held him, she missed him and still to this day still loved him.

"I'm coming out here to start over." He held her close and smiled. "I guess I can't do that now can I?" He laughed a little bit. "Just trying to get away from something and I heard this was a place of new beginnings, so I sold off what little I had, grabbed a notebook, clothes, and my backpack and came out here."

She decided to close up for the night she shewed everyone out and then turned to Thomas, "You want to go to my quarters so we can talk?" Milika said as she couldn't help but smile, this was the best thing to happen to her since her husband was killed in battle.

"Yeah, that sounds good. I don't even know where I'm going to stay yet. I was just planning on doing the whole bohemian thing for a while until I found a mechanics job or lived on Bajoran hand outs or something along those lines." He smiled at her, she was the last person that he would have ever guessed he would find out here.

Smiling "You can stay with me Thomas," Milika said as they continued to walk down the corridor after she closed down her bar for the night. "Oh, I hope you don't mind I have a 7 month old daughter named Sira," Milika said as they walked.

After a while they came to her quarters, "Well here we are," she said as she entered her quarters followed by Thomas.

"That is ok, just stick me in a corner somewhere and I'll be happy, I don't take up to much room." Thomas smiled as he followed her into her quarters. "I will say, it will be nice not to hear the humm of warp engines for a change."

"I have enough room for you," she said as she went into the bedroom to get her daughter to bring her out to met him. Walking out of the room she smiled "This is Sira my little angel," Milika said as she sat on the couch. "Come site with me, we need to catch up on old times." Milika said as she had so much thoughts running in her head.

"Indeed, it has been what, almost 10 years or so since well.. yeah." Thomas stopped talking as he dropped his packs down on the ground and sat on the couch. "So your husband isn't going to come in here and think the wrong thing is he? I'd hate to visit the medical ward on my first day here."

She looked at him then stood up with Sira and set her in the play pin and walked towards the window, "He was killed, right before I found out I was pregnant with Sira" she said as she looked out the window. She wasn't mad, he didn't know but thoughts kept filling her mind. She knew Jason would want her to move on, to find someone new to help raise their daughter.

Maybe Thomas showed up just at the right moment, he was her first boyfriend and she still loved him.

"Ohh I'm so sorry.." Thomas slouched down in the chair and could feel himself sink down into it. "That must be horribly rough for you. I can't imagine what it must be like."

She turned to him and smiled, "It's been rough but I have sorta gotten over it, but right now its tough trying to raise a daughter by myself, and I know Jason would want me to find someone else and not be alone and miserable." Milika said as she looked at him then back out the window.

"Maybe your my angel," Milika said.

"Perhaps. I would never have expected to find you out here, especially after so many years. It is funny how your past seems to catch up to you occasionally... They say that angles go where they are needed, but I don't see myself as one."

She walked up to him and sat down, "I got a confession to make Thomas," she said as she looked at him. Her eyes still sparkled the way they did when they were together so many years ago back on Trill.

"What is that Milika?" Thomas could see the way she was acting towards him. Could she really have not lost her feelings for him, it had been so long, she had fallen in love, married him and had a child. "I don't want you to say anything you are going to regret."

She smiled, "After all these years since we last talked, I thought I never see you again. Throughout all these years I can't help but think about you, wondering where you are and if you where alright." Milika started, "I still have feelings for you, even when I was married I still find myself thinking about you." She added as she looked at him while Sira was in the play pin playing with some of her toys giggling.

"I still love you, and maybe you coming her was a sign of some sort. I don't know how to explain it." Milika said as she then leaned in and kissed him deeply, without thinking. She felt like it was the right thing to do.

Thomas let the kiss linger for a moment then gently pushed her back. "I'm so flattered dear, I'm so excited to see you.. but maybe we should take this kind of slow at first. I mean, until a few moments ago, I didn't know where you were." He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight. "I'm not even through being warp lagged." He laughed a little bit and held her a little tighter.

"I know, I am just happy to see you" she said as she laid on his shoulder and smiled. "But you can stay with me if you would like, i got a big enough bed" she said with a wink to see what he would say. "Oh, you can work at my bar if you would like," Milika said as she looked at him and then back at her daughter while she played.

She has been a good child, rarely fusses unless she is hungry or needs to be changed. Other then that she is full of giggles and loves to play.

"The bed sounds much better then the slab of metal that I was sleeping on." he smiled "I would love a job, until I can get on my feet here or something, to be honest I'm not even sure what I was planning on doing once I got here, other then write that is. It is all I've wanted to do for a while and now I might have the chance to do it."

Smiling she slipped a hand under his shirt and rubbed his chest like she used to do. She noticed that Sira fell asleep. Milika got up and got her and walked into the bedroom and put her in her crib and then walked back out and then headed into the bedroom to slip on something more comfortable. "Oh, Thomas can you come here please?" she said as she sat on the bed as she waited for him.

Thomas wearily walked into the bedroom. Seeing her again brought back a wash of emotions, most of them didn't make any sense. Walking into the room he saw her on the bed. She was still beautiful, everything he remembered about her was coming back.

She smiled as she sat on the bed, "Come sit down we got so much to catch up on," Milika said as she smiled at him. He is still as handsome as she last saw him, how she missed him. Emotions running through her head as she looked at him.

Thomas went over and stretched out on the bed, it felt so comfortable. "I'm glad that I chose to come to this station, of all the bases in the galaxy, I randomly chose this one."

Smiling she laid down beside him laying her hand across his chest and laid her head on his chest. "I know right, someone is telling us something or other," she said as she just laid there listening to his heart beat which soothed her. "Its good see you again, how I have missed you." Milika said.

Thomas closed his eyes and let the fragrance of the room enter his nose. "I've missed you too.. I'm sure in the next few days we've got a lot of catching up to do." Burke let out a soft yawn, being lured onto the bed was like a Siren luring a sailor into the rocks so that she could feast.

Smiling "Lets get some sleep," Milika said as she got up and got the bed ready and crawled in and got comfortable with her head back on his chest and smiled. She slipped on of her hands under his shirt and started rubbing his chest like she used to do.

Thomas leaned down and kissed her on the head and pulled her close to him. "It is good to be home."

Smiling she looked up at him, "I am glad you are home," she said as she cuddled up to him and was soon fast asleep laying on his chest. She felt at ease, it seemed when he was around it had that calming affect which she had really missed.
