The Physical

Mission: Wolf In The Fold. Season 2, Episode 1
Location: Sickbay

Carlos knew he couldn't put it off any longer and sighed as he walked through the corridors to sickbay. He stepped inside and looked around. He was just going to stand here for a couple minutes and if no one approached him he could leave and say that he'd tried going to sickbay for his physical.

Amber walked out to the main sickbay. "Hello, can I help you?"

Carlos cursed under his breath as he turned to face the woman that had spoken to him. "Ensign Carlos Rojas reporting for a physical, ma'am."

"Okay, why don't you find a biobed and I will be right with you."

Carlos nodded and walked to an empty biobed. As he sat down, he looked around the area. At least he wasn't the only one that had been trapped into coming to sickbay.

Amber grabbed her medical tricorder. "So tell me you have any complaints other than coming down here?" Asked Amber as she was scanning Carlos.

"My right leg still bothers me from time to time," Carlos replied, "but it's nothing that will keep me from doing my job. Other than that I'm fine."

"What kind of problems," asked amber as she scanned the leg.

"Just the occasional numbness," Carlos replied. "Nothing to worry about. It's an old wound and I've gotten use to it."

"What you say about us taking care of that," asked Amber.

"It's not a big deal," Carlos said again. "I'm sure you have more important things to do."

Amber went and grabbed a stool and sat down. Then looked up at Carlos. "Ensign, if its going to be causing problems even if its here and there, we need to do something about it. Besides, my job here is to ensure the health of everyone on this base, when I am here and not traveling the stars," said Amber.

"Yes, ma'am," Carlos said to her. "What are you going to do?"

Amber thought she was going to fight with Carlos. "Okay lets take a look at that leg again."

Carlos nodded and extended his right leg a little. He knew better than to upset a doctor during a physical. "Thanks, Doc," he said to her.

Amber nodded as she scanned his leg again. Amber closed the tricorder and put it in her pocket. "Well, the good news is we can fix it but it requires surgery." We can schedule this for some time next week unless you want it done sooner. "What the problem it seems is that your cartilage has been wearing away. We can synthesize that and replace it. Then you should be good as new."

"How long will the surgery keep me out of work?" he asked her.

"Probably a few hours, but you would have to take it easy for a few days."

Carlos sighed as he thought about that. "How soon can we do it?"

"Whenever you want it. Tomorrow, or some time next week."

"The sooner the better I think," Carlos replied.

"So how about tomorrow?"

"I can clear my schedule and come in," Carlos confirmed.

"Amber nodded."

"How is the rest of the physical?" he asked. "Am I going to live?"

Amber wanted to tease him and say no, but that would have been cruel. "You in perfect health," said Amber with a smile.

"Good to hear," Carlos replied. "I guess I should get back to work then."

"So I will see you tomorrow?"

"I'll be here," Carlos said as he stood up. "Thanks again, Doc," he said as he moved to the door.

Amber Nodded.
