Burned Flesh - Backpost

Posted on Tue Jun 22nd, 2010 @ 10:28pm by Lieutenant Amber Winters & 1st Lieutenant Delvok Laurie

Mission: Wolf In The Fold. Season 2, Episode 1
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Before the Anubis Post

Amber was on duty right now on DS7 until she was needed on the Anubis. It kept her busy and away from her twin after all. A marine came in. "What happened?" She asked him.

Fletcher held his hands out. The burns weren't that bad, but the criss-cross lines where the wires had been in his hands when the overload had occurred.

"I had an accident trying to fix some of the biobed monitors; damned thing overloaded while I still had my hands on the wires. I don't think anything else is damaged, but there does seem to be a strong smell of toast from me," he said with a thin smile.

"Come on, lets go to the biobed," said Amber.

Fletcher followed Amber to a biobed and shuffled onto it, trying not to put his hands down. He sat back on the bed and smiled roguishly.

"So, Doc, when do the peeled grapes come and do will it be you feeding them to me?" he asked, the smile growing slightly.

Amber smiled. "Well, it looks like we got 3rd degree burns here." Amber said this sadly.

Fletcher was slightly disappointed that Amber hadn't risen to his comment. What was more upsetting were the burns. "So, just how bad is it? I do rather need my hands." A sly smile came to his lips. "Perhaps I could show you once you've kindly patched them up?"

"Amber sighed." "You have a third degree burn which means we need to graft new skin on there. Normally I would take a dermal regeneration and repair it here and now, but its way to big to do that, so I need to graft new skin on. I can take some of your skin or synthesize it.."

"Where would you take the skin from on me?" Fletcher asked, one eyebrow arched curiously.

"Somewhere, you won't notice," said Amber with a smile. "I could also synthesize some too so I won't take any. Its up to you. Sooner we get this done, sooner you be able to use your hand again."

Fletcher considered the options. "I think some synthesis skin would be good. Will it take long?" he asked, not really bothere if it took all day.

"Okay lets get it done," said Amber. "Don't worry you be in and out."

"Oh that's good," he said not to sure of what was going to actually happen. "So, what will you actually be doing? Will you knock me out for this?" Somehow he didn't like the idea of having to be conscious while being operated on. Then again he was a Marine and meant to be able to deal with such things.

"Yeah," said Amber. " Why don't you lay back," said Amber.

Fletcher lay back on the biobed and waited to be knocked out. He wasn't looking forward to this since this was the first time he'd been medically been rendered unconscious. All his life he'd been very cautious about such things, even when running with and from the gangs of his youth.

"Ok, Doc, let's get this show on the road."

Amber grabbed a hypo and pressed it against his neck.

She watched as he closed his eyes. She had help to take him to the surgical bay where she would fix it all up. She had the med staff get everything she needed and she started fixing up his hand to where it would be as good as new. It took her about an hour before she was finished. After she was done, he was sent to the recovery area where she woke him up. She waited til she saw his eyes open.

Fletcher felt groggy as he started to come to. Instead of feeling like he'd had a nice refreshing sleep, he left more like he'd been knocked out during a fist fight. When he looked up he smiled slightly.

"I feel terrible, but at least I'm waking up so something worth looking at," he mumbled quietly. "Am I good as new?"

"Take a look at your hand. Does it look as good as new?" Amber asked.

Fletcher casually glanced at his hand. "Well, it looks as good as new, but I still know it isn't the same flesh I came in with. And I've not had a chance to try it out on the tasks that really matter to see if it is as good as new," he replied looking up at Amber with a half smile. "Perhaps you could help me in that respect?"

"Well, what you suppose I help you with," asked Amber slyly.

A wide grin appeared on Fletcher's features. "Well, I need to make sure I still have the same level of sensitivity in it. My hands are very important for my work and my play. Work I can see about, but perhaps you could help with the play side of things?" he said, being rather coy. He looked her up and down briefly before returning his gaze to her face.

This was the point at which he was either going to be singing the praises of Sickbay for some time, or avoiding injury all together after upsetting one of the doctors. And likely getting slapped in the process.

"Maybe I could buy you a drink to show my appreciation?" he added.

"Sure," said Amber. "I do have a meeting on the Anubis a little later, so it have to be before or some time later on. Probably going to be heading out so it may be a whiles later."

"Yeah, I wouldn't want to make you late," he said with a grin. "You have fun, and I'll have a drink waiting for you when you get back."

"Thank you," said Amber. "I will see you then."
