Mission: Wolf In The Fold. Season 2, Episode 1
Location: Officer Lounge
Timeline: Current

Leanne sat reclined in the lounge chair, she hadn't had many duties since she had come on board so she was taking the opportunity to brush up on her Cardassian and local politics. She was told that soon she would have to be going across the border to help bring the local populice up to health standards and beat back some of the most recent disease outbreaks. She reached for her cup of coffee and frowned at the empty cup.

"After this I'll get some more."

"You can have mine," Carlos suggested, holding out his cup as he paused on his way to another table.

"Ohhh.... umm.." She looked at the Ensign "Are you sure.. Starfleet science runs on Coffee, I'd hate for you to have to go without... who knows the dire consequences." She smiled at him.

"I don't mind at all," Carlos said with a smile as he set the cup in front of her. "Carlos Rojas," he said, extending his hand.

"Leanne Ulonova, why don't you have a seat and we'll get you another cup." She said setting down her padd and taking his hand. "My eyes are starting to hurt with all of this information."

"What are you reading?" Carlos asked as he took a seat across from her.

"I'm trying lo read up on all of the systems around here, one of the missions is to render aid to the Cardassian systems around here and to be honest, I don't have the froggiest about any of them, and to be honest, I'm lost." Leanne looked across the table at Carlos and tossed one of the data padds showing some of the nearby star systems.

Carlos looked at the data and nodded. "I have a passing familiarity with these systems. At least, from a scientific point of view." He looked at the padd again and said, "I'm clueless when it comes to the political scene."

"Well at least you have one up on me, I don't even know how to pronounce most of them, I feel like I should rip out my tongue and throw my leg over my head to be able to say half of them." She laughed a little bit and smiled at him. "Well, maybe I'll drag you along with me when we head out there, you can do some science out there."

Carlos laughed at her comment about the names. "I would love to have the opportunity to do closer studies of some of these systems," Carlos replied.

"I'll see what I can do." She took a sip of the coffee that he had put down in front of her and winced "Little strong isn't it." She took a full drink of the coffee and smiled. "So what brings you out to the frontier?"

"That coffee is weaker than what I use in the labs," he said with a smile, "which is why I didn't mind giving it away." He paused and looked at the padd again. "This is why I wanted to be here," he said. "There is so much to explore out here."

"I can tell you that in the time that I've been with this crew, I've seen more then I ever dreamed of." She took another sip. "So you are definitely in the right place for exploring and seeing things that will make your head spin."

"That's what I'm counting on," Carlos said with a nod. "So," he said, handing the padd back to her. "what do you like to do when you aren't driving yourself crazy with Cardassian names?"

The question caught her off guard, it had been so long since she had free time that she had to think about it. "Holonovels, though it has been a bit since I've had a good one, and Violin.... and coffee. You?"

"I enjoy playing various sports on the holodeck," Carlos replied. "When I'm not doing that I'm usually in my quarters with a good book."

Her eyes lit up. "What kind of sports... Commander Lam owes me a Hockey game... and I've been looking for some people for my team..."

"I've never played hockey," Carlos replied. "There wasn't exactly an abundance of ice in Pike City when I was growing up."

"I'm sure that one of us could show you the ropes of it, you could probably be an enforcer." She smiled wickedly at the man. "That is if you like the cold."

"The cold is a nice change for me after spending most of my life on Cestus III," Carlos replied. "Ever been there?"

"Just in passing really..." She took a sip of her coffee and wanted to forget the war with the Gorn. "I've heard some things about it."

"So how hard would it be to learn to play hockey?" Carlos asked, changing the subject.

"Not hard, the basics are not hard to get down, just hitting a puck into a new is the most basic explanation of it. I can teach you, might be something that you find that you like, and don't worry, if you lose a tooth, I can put it back in." Leanne grinned widely at the exchange, remembering some of the things that she did back in the day.

"Right," Carlos said dubiously. "When would you like to do it?"

"How about next week we schedule some holodeck time, and I'll teach you the ropes." Leanne downed the rest of her coffee and stood up grabbing a few of the padds on the table. "I need to get to my duty station. It was nice talking to you." She reached her hand out to him.

Carlos stood and shook the woman's hand. "It was a real pleasure meeting you and I look forward to our next encounter."

"Get ready for the ice." She smiled and headed out of the lounge.

Carlos watched her leave and smiled. He was definitely looking forward to seeing her again. He sat down and finished his coffee, staring out the window and trying to remember what he could about hockey.
