Mission: Wolf In The Fold. Season 2, Episode 1
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: Before the Anubis Post

Carlos looked at the time and sighed. It was time to head to sickbay and try to get his leg fixed. He thought about contacting the doctor and postponing it but he knew it wouldn't do any good. He closed down his console and headed to the turbolift.

Several minutes later he stopped off the lift and slowly walked down the corridor. Half way there his leg started bothering him. He was sure it was just his imagination. Pre-surgery jitters. That's all it was. Carlos sighed and stepped into sickbay. He paused and looked around. He saw Doctor Winters standing nearby so he walked over to her and said, "Hi, Doc. I'm here for the surgery."

Amber had spend most of the morning preparing for Carlos. "Why don't you find a biobed and I will have a nurse prep you." said Amber.

"Yes, ma'am," Carlos said as he found a bed and sat down.

Amber had the nurse to take care of him while she finished having everything in place. Moments later, Amber walked over to Carlos. "So are you ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be," Carlos said to her.

Amber smiled. "Nervous?"

"Wouldn't you be?" Carlos asked her. "I know you're a professional but sometimes things go wrong, right?"

"Yeah, but I had to ask," said Amber with a perky smile. Amber put her hand on Carlos. "You are in safe hands."

"I trust you, Doc," Carlos said, trying to give her a smile that matched his words.

"Okay, here is what is going to happen. When, I go in, I am going to repair that knee. As I told you yesterday that I was going to be replacing your missing cartilage with synthetic, but it should do its job. So you ready?"

Carlos looked at her and nodded. "How long will the surgery take?"

"Probably a couple hours," said Amber. "I can't give you the exact as sometimes it takes longer and sometimes it less time."

Carlos nodded and said, "What do you want me to do?"

"I want you to relax," said Amber. "I am going to put you to sleep now."

"Do I get breakfast in bed afterward?" Carlos asked, trying to lighten his nervousness.

Amber took the hypospray and pressed it against his neck. She watched as he fell asleep. Amber called the medics to help her bring him over to the surgical bay. Once there, she activated the sterile field and started working with the nurses and the other doctors helping. She placed a Delta Wave Inducer on his head. She then asked for a laser scalpel from the nurse that was helping her out. She slowly opened his knee up. It was worse than she had thought it would be. She repaired the cartridge area first before she messed with the other problem. It took her about a couple hours, but the synthetic material was now in place, but the muscles around it needed some repairing. She took a Cellular micro-sutures and repaired that up. She then closed up and took him to the recovery area. She then woke him up. She stood there until she saw his eyes to open up.

Carlos looked around for a moment and said, "Is there a problem? I thought you were going to do the surgery?"

Amber smiled and then laughed. She put her right hand to her mouth. "Sorry did not mean to laugh," said Amber.

"What's so funny?" Carlos asked her, a confused look on his face.

Amber took a stool and sat down next to him. "Well, we already did the surgery," said Amber.

"What?" Carlos asked, looking down at his knee. "That was easier than I thought. Am I going to live?"

Amber said, "Yes." Amber smiled. "So, how are you feeling?" She did this as she sat down next to him.

"It hurts now that I know about it," he said to her. "Is that normal?"

"Yes. Once it heals up a bit more, you should be fine. I can though give you something for the pain."

"That won't be necessary," Carlos said to her. "So what happens now?"

"Well, I'd like you to rest here for a few hours. If everything looks good after then, I will let you go," said Amber. "Uhm I need to tell you something though. When I went in, your knee was actually worse than I had originally thought it was, but I was able to fix it."

"What do you mean by worse?" Carlos asked her. "Am I going to be able to walk again?"

Amber smiled. "Oh yeah. There just was more damage. The muscles around the bone were damaged, which I also repaired after I added the cartridge in."

Carlos smiled and leaned back on the bed. "How can I thank you for everything, Doc?"

"You just did," said Amber.

"How about dinner?" he suggested.

"I will have to think about it," said Amber.

Carlos nodded and closed his eyes again. "When will I get out of here?"

"In a few hours," said Amber.

"Are there going to be any restrictions?" Carlos asked her.

"You rest and we will talk about it in a few hours," said Amber.

"Yes, ma'am," Carlos said to her as he leaned back and closed his eyes.

Amber then headed off to her office and put in her report.
