Mission: Wolf In The Fold. Season 2, Episode 1
Location: Promenade

"Eating alone again, I see?" Harlan smiled at the younger Science officer. "You seem to do that a lot. May I join you? I do not know many people here yet."

"Probably know more than me," Carlos said, looking up from his stew. "Feel free to have a seat if you wish."

Harlan sat down with his bowl of soup. He rambled happily, "I don't think I have a knack for friends. They tend to die so quickly. I can't remember the last time I spoke to someone who was more than two centuries old. How goes the Stellar Cartography?"

"Not much to explore in the immediate area," Carlos said to him. "I'm trying to get permission to use the sensor arrays to do a wider scan."

"And what is that you are eating?"

"It's something called Stew," Carlos said to him. "It's something they eat on Earth. I thought I would try it since we didn't have it on Cestus III."

Harlan shook his head, "I have lived on Klingon food for decades now, and it is a little disconcerting to see the food so... still. Normally that would mean stale. How are the others in your department?"

"I haven't really talked to anyone else in my department," Carlos said with a shrug.

Harlan looked confused, "How can it be that you are so fascinated by recuring phenomena like Stellar nursuries, and yet the people around you don't even register? Is that true of all your kind?"

"I don't believe so," Carlos said. "I just have a hard time interacting with people that I don't know well."

Harlan leaned forward, "Forgive me, I am still adjusting to your species. How do you get to know each other before you have met? Is it downloaded? Or do you have friends assigned by a central agency?"

"Nothing like that," Carlos said to him. "It takes time to get to know someone well. Some people get along immediately after meeting. I'm not one of them."

Harlan just accpeted that. "Then I guess you will not be able to help me meet any of the people on this station then. Such a shame. I find traditions so hard to learn. They all seem silly. Like the Iconian 'Wind Waving' or the Nausican 'Bite'."

"I'm sure something could be arranged," Carlos said to him. "Perhaps we could meet the others together."

Harlan smiled. "Yes, I think I'd like that."
